If my student has tested positive for COVID, when can they return to school?
Posted by:
An individual testing positive for COVID can return to school when the following criteria have been met:
- At least 5 days have passed since symptoms first appeared; and
- If asymptomatic, at least 5 days from the date of the positive viral test.
- At least one day (24 hours) has passed since recovery/resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications; and
- The individual has improvement in symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath).
***It is recommended for the individual to continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others at home and in public for 5 additional days (day 6 through day 10) after the end of their 5-day isolation period. If they are unable to wear a mask when around others, they should continue to isolate for 10 days. ***
