Board of Trustees Approves Hiring Billy Russell to be Head Football Coach at Porter High School
The Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Billy Russell to be the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Porter High School, April 19. Russell, who has been the Spartans offensive coordinator since 2016, has served in public education for 26 years. He began his coaching career at New Caney Middle School in 1995 before working in Splendora ISD and Humble ISD. Russell graduated from New Caney High School, and both his mother and grandmother retired after long careers with New Caney ISD. Russell and his wife Paula have three sons, the oldest is a graduate of Porter High School and two currently attend Porter High School. Russell replaces Jim Holley who will become the district’s director of athletics, replacing Brent Sipe who is retiring after 29 years in education and 8 years in New Caney ISD. Holley has been the head coach at Porter High School for the last five seasons, compiling a 35-19 record and leading the Spartans to three playoff appearances.
