December 15, 2016 | Lifelong Learner | Students from across New Caney ISD participated in the Hour of Code Dec. 5 at the Community Room at Texan Drive Stadium.
The Hour of Code is a worldwide event involving students from kindergarten to high school exploring the world of computer coding. The event was created by the Hour of Code organization so that students could learn more about computer programming and consider a career in coding or computer science.
Chromebooks were set up in the Community Room by the Digital Learning Department and students were placed in sections according to grade levels. Each grade level explored a different aspect of computer coding through writing code, playing games or assembling small computer components.
The event also featured guest speaker Jamey Johnston, Data Scientist for a large independent oil and gas company. Johnston donated a Raspberry Pi which is a tiny and affordable computer that you can use to learn programming through fun practical projects. The Raspberry Pi was awarded as a door prize to Frida Escobar of Porter High School.
