Special Education students participate in SUCCESS golf event

November 30, 2016 | Interpersonal and Collaborative Skills | Special Education students recently had the opportunity to participate in the SUCCESS Golf event sponsored by the Be an Angel organization.

SUCCESS stands for Students Undertaking Challenging Courses Ensuring development of Sportsmanship and Skills. The event took place at New Caney Middle School Oct. 28 and featured a mini-golf course designed for special needs children across the district.

The Special Education students were partnered with a student volunteer from one of several schools that participated in the event. The student volunteer assisted the Special Education student to each station where they would play a round of mini-golf, bowl or play another game such as basketball.

The unique training promoted fun, learning, increased fine motor skills and brain development for the special needs students, according to the Be An Angel website describing the event.

Approximately 100 student volunteers from New Caney Middle School, New Caney High School, Infinity Early College High School and Porter High School assisted 175 special needs students from across the district at the event.
