Porter High School nominated for Tommy Tune Awards

 Best Featured Performer: Alex Semler & Kaesye Wyatt as Mayor and Mrs. Shinn March 28, 2016 | Yes Minded | Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) announced the nominations for TUTS’ 14th annual Tommy Tune Awards and Porter High School was nominated for two Tommy Tune Awards for their performance in The Music Man.

In the category of Best Featured Performer, Alex Semler and Kaesye Wyatt, Porter High School, were nominated for portrayal of the Mayor and Mrs. Shinn in The Music Man.


Additionally, the Music Man orchestra was nominated for Best Orchestra.


The TUTS’ 14th annual Tommy Tune Awards will be held on April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The Tommy Tune Awards recognize and reward excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers.


After evaluating the 45 participating Houston-area high school productions during the 2015-2016 school year, a team of 30 Houston-based theatre professionals nominated 164 participants in 15 award categories. An additional committee considered 42 potential scholarship recipients.


TUTS’ Tommy Tune Awards are designed not only to acknowledge remarkable musical theatre talent at the high school level, but also to encourage future artistic development. TUTS will present eight scholarships to outstanding participating students of the Tommy Tune Awards. These include the Ruth Denney Scholarship, named in honor of Tune’s mentor and legendary Lamar High School drama teacher.
