On March 15, 2025 Neveah Moszkowicz earned first place at the Powerlifting 5A D2 State Championship Final, winning the first state championship in West Fork High School (WFHS) history. The Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) meet was held in Edinburg, Texas, and featured hundreds of powerlifters from across the state. Placing first in her weight class, Neveah earned her win with a total weight lifted of 870 pounds. She recorded a squat of 335 pounds, a bench press of 200 pounds, and a deadlift of 335 pounds.

“I feel really happy to know that I am the first state champion at West Fork,” Neveah said. “Starting off [as a state champion] is really cool, and it's cool to see how far I’ve progressed.”

Neveah began her powerlifting career just last year as a freshman and quickly worked her way up to becoming a top competitor, but the journey to state was not easy. In November 2023, Neveah was diagnosed with knee condition and underwent surgery in early 2024. She began her healing process in the spring of 2024, working daily with the WFHS Sports Medicine team to build up her mobility and strength.

“Working with Sports Medicine and my outside physical therapist really helped me progress and get back into lifting,” she said. “During the summer I started out squatting at 65 pounds, then I built all the way back up for state at 335 pounds.”

Neveah’s progress required relentless effort. Neveah and her teammates arrive at school for 6 a.m. workouts to train for powerlifting meets, pushing themselves to improve every day. This intense training ultimately prepares them to compete—and win—at the highest level.

“It takes a tremendous amount of dedication to become an elite athlete, especially a state champion,” said WFHS Athletic Coordinator Dougald McDougald. “We are extremely proud of Nevaeh and her accomplishments.”
