From September 5 to September 13, 2025, New Caney ISD FFA students participated in the East Montgomery County (EMC) Fair and Rodeo. Organized by the East Montgomery County Fair Association, the fair includes students from New Caney ISD and Splendora ISD who compete in various events to win scholarships. At the fair, New Caney ISD students brought home over 40 awards in livestock showing, horticulture, and fine arts.
Students, especially those involved in livestock showing, begin preparing for the fair months ahead, carefully selecting and raising their animals. They take on the full responsibility of feeding, training, and working with their animals throughout the summer, all while checking in weekly with their FFA advisors. Meanwhile, students participating in non-livestock events begin early preparations as well, dedicating time to planning and perfecting their project.

Through the FFA program, students also participate in activities like livestock and research projects, entrepreneurship opportunities, and community outreach and education. According to Jacob Brandon, FFA sponsor at West Fork High School, this hard work and dedication help students grow both personally and as leaders, preparing them for success beyond the classroom.
Taylor Martin, FFA sponsor at Porter High School, agrees.
“FFA gives our students confidence, leadership skills, and a place to belong,” she said. “It also helps our district shine by showing the community how hardworking and capable our kids are.”
Students can join FFA as early as third grade by participating in the Junior FFA program. Monthly FFA meetings are held at each high school, and are open for students to attend to learn more about the programs. For more information, contact an FFA sponsor.
