This fall, the NCISD marching bands competed in the UIL Region Marching Contest, earning Division 1 ratings for the third year in a row and each advancing to perform at the next level.

After the region performances, New Caney High School (NCHS) competed in the 6A UIL Area contest, placing 17th out of the 29 competing bands. Porter High School (PHS) and West Fork High School (WFHS) competed in the 5A UIL Area contest. WFHS placed 15th at Area, while PHS placed 11th and advanced to finals, where they placed 8th overall.

Each band performed a distinct marching show. Porter High School presented Spindletop – A Portrait in Oil, featuring Symphony No. 2, Ignition, American Elegy, and Tulsa: A Symphonic Portrait in Oil, New Caney High School performed Blood Moon, featuring Lacrimosa, Eleanor Rigby, Moonlight Sonata, and Reflections of Earth, and West Fork High School presented Ad Astra (To the Stars), featuring Equilibrium, Symphony No. 2, What Was I Made For?, Go the Distance, and Defying Gravity.

These performances reflect months of dedication and hard work. Students begin practicing in mid-July, attending band camps and participating in marching rehearsals. Beginning August 1, UIL permits bands to start full rehearsals of their contest show, and from that point, students practice intensively in preparation for the competitions.

“I am so proud of all of our high school band students, directors, and parents,” said NCISD Fine Arts Director Brian Moran.  “All three of our high school band programs have had competitive seasons and represent the best of New Caney ISD. The improvements made from week to week really show how well our directors and students work together. New Caney ISD really is a special place, and I can't wait for the next marching season!”
