Mrs. Illari Morales-Flores

Hello, I’m Mrs. Illari Morales-Flores. I’m going to be your Spanish teacher this school year. I’m from a city called Guadalajara in Mexico, I called Texas home since 2006.

I enjoy teaching Social Studies in Spanish because I do believe on what the Spanish philosopher called Santayana said: "Aquellos que no aprenden de la historia estan condenados a repetirla" (Those who do not lean history are doomed to repeat it), I also love Spanish which is my first language.

When I'm not teaching you will find me kickboarding on the streets, watching korean dramas, cooking or finding new recipes and if is summer on a land far away, since I love to travel.

See you at School. )

    General Information

Grades in this class are: 40% daily grades (bell ringer, papers, foldables, oral participation), and 60% projects and test. The grades are posted on Skyward system every week, Please get a password for skyward at the front office, that way you can check your child’s grades at any time (even through your cell phone). If you see a * on your child's grades means the grades are not posted yet, if you see a zero means he/she have a missing paper, talk to your child, he/she may still have time to turn it in. Late work and corrected assignments are accepted up to 3 A or B days late.

Semester Exam: Every semester the students will have a semester exam that will cover all the content for the semester, one exam is Due on december the other one in May, last week of school. This grade will count as 10% of the student grade.

Late Work/correcting assignments: Late daily grades will be accepted up to 3 days (A/B) late, but every day will lose 10 points until they reach 70, after 3 days no late work will be accepted (for absent students see next bullet). The student can correct assignments for a better grade up to 3 days he/she got the paper back.

Absent students: must sign the make up work folder to be able to receive makeup work with a new due date, they must turn in papers at/before the new date stamped on the makeup work.

Retake of a failing test: if your child failed a test, he/she have to set an appointment  with the teacher to retake it during tutoring times, (only a week after the grade is posted). There is no retakes during class time.

Canvas: Canvas is the computer “classroom” system used by New Caney ISD. In that site you will find videos, documents and notes your child is using in the classroom. The assignments are there only in case your child lose them or is absent; all the student worksheets should be done in paper, in the classroom, and will be provided by the teacher.

No cell phone policy: There is a no cellphone policy in this classroom. Students using a cellphone without a teacher clear authorization will be sent to the office. If you need to call your child, please call through the front office. Use of chromebooks also needs a teacher previous clear authorization or instruction. Chromebooks need to be charge at home.

Materials: The students need ruled paper and pencil for all classes, and If you wish to help the classroom you can donate rule paper, kleenex, or clorox wipes, for the kids to use.

Miscellaneous: In my classroom the students are allowed to use spinners and/or rubix cubes, also they are allowed to eat healthy snacks like fruit or nuts in the classroom or drink water. Every classroom is different please check with other teachers before letting your child eating in other classroom. Also is  very important for your child to sleep at night, teenagers need 9-10 hrs. of sleep every night. If possible remove all electronic devices at night so your child is not tempted to be online instead of sleeping.

We have a great year ahead of us. You will see your child have a major grow in middle school. He/she will want to be more independent but still needs your help, direction and motivation. We will work together to help him/her grow in a positive direction. If you have any question or concerns please email me.
