My name is Terri Thomas and this will be my Fifth year teaching in New Caney ISD. I am originally from Kansas, and graduated from Tabor College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in general education (early childhood - 8th) and special education (early childhood-12th) My first teaching experience was in a small town in Kansas teaching as a resource teacher. I taught there for 3 years and then made the choice to stay at home and raise my four beautiful children. By the time my children were all school age, I had been a stay at home mom for 11 years. By this time I was longing to get back to work and make a difference in lives, so I went back to work, but chose a job that enabled me to serve in a different capacity. Instead of teaching children, I accepted a job working for a wonderful company who services adults with special needs. This was an awesome learning and growing experience, and my passion for those with special needs grew and developed by leaps and bounds! In 2014 my children and I moved from Kansas to Texas. My first job here was at Reach Unlimited in Houston where I again worked with adults with special needs as a Staff and Curriculum Development Specialist. 7 years ago I went back to teaching in the Cypress Fairbanks school district as a PPCD teacher. This was also an amazing year of growth as I was able to see the scope of working with students from the very foundational grades all the way to adulthood and independence. In March of 2016, I was remarried and have inherited three more beautiful children (yes, for those of you who are counting, that makes SEVEN!) Our family lives in Shepherd, Texas, and in 2016 I moved to Humble ISD and taught in a co-teach pre-k class. My first year in the district I taught pre-k at Sorters Mill Elementary!! I then taught Kindergarten at Valley Ranch Elementary for 3 years. This year I have been given the opportunity to teach in Pre-K again, to pilot a very exciting program where all special needs students will be fully included in the regular Pre-K program! Amazing things are going to happen this year! I am excited about this new adventure and am looking forward to meeting and getting to know each one of the students and their families!
