"How can I explain to anyone that stories are like air to me, I breathe them in and let them out over and over again." These lines from Jacqueline Woodson's poem, "the selfish giant," speak to one of my biggest passions. I have always loved stories: hearing them, telling them, reading them, writing them. My students quickly learn that my passions directly influence my teaching.
After graduating from Sam Houston State University in 2005, I taught at two other schools before coming to New Caney. I find it hard to believe I am in my seventeenth year of teaching!
I teach English. My goal is to help all of my students develop reading and writing skills, find application in their lives, and make connections with others. "Being literate and using your literacy puts you in control of your thoughts, ideas, beliefs, opinions — and life." is a line from Read, Write, Teach by Linda Rief that guides me in much of what I do.
