Mr. Jeremy Harris - Principal

My name is Jeremy Harris and I am beginning my third year as the principal of Porter High School. I am a 1995 graduate of Texas A&M University. I firmly believe that the leadership skills I learned at Texas A&M helped prepare me for my role as a school administrator. After teaching and coaching for 10 years, I obtained my Masters in Education from Lamar University in 2009. I also recently completed the superintendent program for the state of Texas.

I have been in New Caney ISD for 17 years. I started as a teacher and a coach at Keefer Crossing Middle School back in 2002. After teaching for seven years at Keefer Crossing, I became an assistant principal at New Caney High School. While there, I was selected to help open Porter High School in 2010 as an assistant principal. After two years of serving as an assistant principal at PHS, I became the principal at the district's alternative campus, The Learning Center. While there, I developed a passion for working with at-risk students and developed a campus where every decision that was made had to answer one question: Is this what is best for students? I came to Porter High School after serving five years as the principal of TLC. I brought that same passion and decision-making process with me. We will always have the student's best interest in mind when making decisions at PHS. As the father of two PHS students, I am able to have a unique perspective and get direct feedback from them when considering campus decisions to be made.

My life outside of school is extremely important to me. I have been married to my wife, Deedra, for 22 years. She is also a teacher in New Caney ISD. We have three children: Lyndi (a senior at PHS), Bucky (a sophomore at PHS) and Jake (a 7th grader at White Oak Middle School). I enjoy spending time and taking trips to the Frio River with my family and friends each summer. I also enjoy passionately following Texas A&M sports and the Houston Astros. I am an avid hunter and love to go hiking. My goal is to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. While all of those things are important, the most important aspect of my life is my faith. My faith is the focal point of everything I do in my life.

My door is always open to questions or concerns. I enjoy meeting the students and parents of Porter High School and I look forward to a fantastic school year.

IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A SPARTAN!!!!
