Hello Parents! Welcome to Fifth Grade at SME!
I have worked in the education field for thirteen years, first as a special education paraprofessional, then in physical education. I have always been passionate about children and the art of learning, and I am so proud to have achieved my dream of being an educator. I am currently a resident here in New Caney, TX. I am married and a proud mother of a six year old son. In my spare time, I enjoy decorating, exercising, shopping, and reading. I am so excited to be a part of your child's education, and I know that it is going to be an amazing school year!
Below are some links that I hope you will find helpful as an extension of what your students will be learning in class.
Grading and Homework Policy
I believe in valuable homework assignments that encourage family participation. Therefore, your student will be asked to read and log 20 minutes of independent reading per Monday-Thursday evening. During this time, I encourage you to get involved, and ask your student questions about their book. Remember, we are partners in ensuring the best education for your student. If WE are excited to read, THEY will be excited to read!
It is my goal to work with you and your child to ensure their success. In doing so, I believe in grading with honesty and integrity. Your student is given a sufficient amount of time each week to complete and correct assignments during class, tutoring, and Tiger Time. Although I will do everything in my power to push them to succeed, they will be responsible for choosing to learn, asking for help, completing their best work, and turning in their work on time. Graded work is sent home weekly in Thursday folders along with their conduct report. It is important to check Skyward on a weekly basis to stay updated on your student's progress, as not all graded assignments are in the form of a worksheet that can be sent home. Your student is held accountable in a variety of ways including journaling, participation, effort, and the level of thinking that they demonstrate during in-class activities. Fifth grade is a challenging year. I strongly encourage parents to stay involved in their child's education. I welcome input, questions, concerns, and communication. You and your child are valuable to me.:)
