Library Services

While instructional materials and library books are both evaluated similarly, they are not the same and the terms should not be used interchangeably. 

Instructional materials are used in classroom instruction as part of the required curriculum, which is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, while Library Materials are used for voluntary inquiry or independent reading.

Since school and classroom libraries are viewed as places for voluntary inquiry, library books are treated differently from instructional materials used in classroom instruction.

As trained professional staff, Campus Media Specialists select library materials which are approved by the School Board after a 30 day public comment period. To view the list of materials currently available for public comment, click here.

Minimum best practice dictates that books considered for purchase or addition to the campus collection be favorably reviewed in at least two of the following sources: one professional publication review and one of either a professional review or informal resource. Additionally, those reviews should include at least one grade level served by the purchasing campus.

Yes! We love for our students and campus community to visit the library both in person and virtually. The Online Library Catalog for your child's campus can be found here. Should you have questions about your child's library account, please reach out to the Campus Media Specialist.

If you would like to visit the campus library, please schedule a visit with the campus principal.

Library checkout information is housed in Accessit, our library management system. To start, click on Student Resources. Scroll down to the Library Catalogs section and locate your child's campus. Login to the Accessit catalog with their Classlink credentials. You can also get to Accessit directly from Classlink.

Current checkout information as well as your child's checkout history can be found by accessing their account, found in the upper right corner of the page.

Much like the varied interests and needs of students in a school, the school library contains a wide range of books that present varying levels of difficulty, diversity of appeal, and a variety of points of view. We aim for students to see themselves and the world around them in the books they read, but understand that not all materials will appeal to, or be a good fit for, all students.

Parents/Guardians reserve the right to guide what their child reads and to select alternative reading or instructional materials to support each family’s unique set of views and opinions. No student will ever be required to choose a library item that conflicts with their personal values and beliefs.

Should you have a concern over a book, please contact the Campus Media Specialist or Principal. We will gladly work with you and your child to get a new book into their hands right away and address any concerns you may have.

A parent of a District student, a student who is 18 years of age or older, an individual employee, or any District resident may challenge a library material maintained in the District's library program on the basis that the material fails to meet the standards set forth in this policy. EFB(LOCAL)
