Safe and Secure

New Caney Independent School District (NCISD) recognizes the importance of safeguarding student data. NCISD mandates that all vendor and campus software requests undergo review and receive approval before being purchased or implemented in the classroom. NCISD works to promote a secure educational environment that complies with all federal and state regulations including, but not limited to:

Securing Children Online Through Parental Empowerment ("SCOPE") Act

The SCOPE Act (HB 18) is aimed at protecting students from harmful, deceptive, or unfair trade practices in connection with the use of certain digital services and electronic devices, including the use and transfer of electronic devices to students by a public school. This act requires digital service providers to provide minors with certain data protections, prevent minors from accessing harmful content, and give parents tools to manage their child's use of the service.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act is a federal law that affords parents the right to have access to their children's education records, the right to seek to have the records amended, and the right to have some control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the education records.

Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA)

The Children's Internet Protection Act was enacted by Congress in 200 to address concerns about children's access to obscene or harmful content over the Internet.

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

COPPA imposes certain requirements on operators of websites or online services directed to children under 13 years of age, and on operators of other websites or online services that have actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information online from a child under 13 years of age.
