Degrees and Certifications:

BA from Wayland Baptist University MA from University of Nevada Las Vegas

Mrs. Sonya Terry

I was born and raised in a small town south of Amarillo – Tulia, Texas.  I attended Wayland Baptist University where I majored in History and Mathematics.  I minored in Education.  After graduation, I left the great state of Texas and moved to Nevada.  My husband and I served on staff at a church in Henderson – a suburb of Las Vegas.  I taught 6th, 8th, and high school while living there.  In addition to teaching in Las Vegas, I pursued my master’s degree in education attending the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

After a brief pilgrimage to Columbus, Ohio, we found ourselves in Texas once again.  By this time, we had 2 small children.  I stayed home to manage the household.  I did teach during this time at Lone Star College.  When my kids were older, I began teaching in the public education system once again.  I taught for several years at Kingwood Park High School and then moved to Porter High School after my kids graduated.

I still currently teach at the college as an adjunct Math professor in the evening.

My class load here at Porter includes Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Honors.
