Children are born scientists with a natural curiosity about the world. Elementary science introduces and lays the foundation for each of the four main disciplines of science: physics, chemistry, life science, and earth and space science. It also introduces the concepts of scientific investigation and reasoning. This strong base provides the foundation for students as they move into higher levels of science and thrive in the their future.
The National Academy of Science defines science as the “use of evidence to construct testable explanations and predictions of natural phenomena, as well as the knowledge generated through this process.” In New Caney ISD our teachers provide students opportunities to learn by doing and not by the passive transfer of information from teacher to student. Our students – including their experiences, preconceptions, questions, and interests are a part of each lesson.
