Proposed Middle School Zone Change for 2020-21 School Year

  • New Caney ISD is among the fastest growing school districts in Texas. Student enrollment growth at times necessitates changes to school zones to balance school enrollments and maintain high-quality learning environments for students.

At the January 2020 regular meeting, the Board of Trustees will consider a proposed change to middle school zones impacting some 6th grade students at White Oak Middle School and students attending Bens Branch Elementary School who live in the impacted areaThe proposed change would occur beginning with the 2020-21 school year. If the Board of Trustees approves the proposed change, families of students in the impacted area will be contacted by letter. Current middle school zones and the proposed change can be viewed on the maps below and involve families living within the blue highlighted area on the map with a zoomed in view.

Students living within the impacted area who are in 6th grade during the current school year (2019-20) will be able to choose whether to remain at White Oak Middle School through 8th grade and attend Porter High School beginning in 9th grade OR move to Woodridge Forest Middle School beginning in the 2020-21 school year and attend the district’s third comprehensive high school scheduled to open in 2022.

Students living within the impacted area who are now attending Bens Branch Elementary School would be zoned to Woodridge Forest Middle School beginning with the 2020-21 school year. For example, current 5th grade students at Bens Branch Elementary School who live in the impacted area would attend Woodridge Forest Middle School beginning with the 2020-21 school year.

Options for 6th grade White Oak Middle School students who live in the area affected by the proposed zone change:

    1. Remain at White Oak Middle School through 8th grade and then attend Porter High School.

    2. Move to Woodridge Forest Middle School beginning in the 2020-21 school year and then attend the district’s third comprehensive high school beginning in 9th grade. The third high school is scheduled to open for the 2022-23 school year.

Students currently attending Bens Branch Elementary School who live in the area affected by the proposed zone change:

    • Would be zoned to Woodridge Forest Middle School beginning with the 2020-21 school year. Would attend the third comprehensive high school scheduled to open for the 2022-23 school year.
