COURSE OUTLINE

Each six weeks the students will have a hand out of objectives outlined with specific information to rehearse and perform throughout the grading period.

BAND HALL PRIVILEGES:

There are ample storage areas for instruments and music. When the band hall is not in use it is kept locked so that outside students cannot gain access. We ask that everyone make every effort to keep the band hall clean by using the trash cans available throughout the rehearsal hall. Every student must have their name on their instrument case. Many cases look alike, and students can confuse someone else's instrument for their own.

. NO FOOD, DRINK, OR GUM
. DO NOT LEAN ON THE STANDS
. DO NOT WRITE ON STANDS OR CHAIRS
. ONLY BAND STUDENTS IN THE BAND HALL

IT'S OUR BAND HALL, LETS KEEP IT CLEAN!!!

Individual Competitions

The ultimate goal of our program is the development of the individual musician to the limit of his or her potential. To assist in reaching this goal, we strongly recommend participation in the individual competitions and festivals offered during the school year.

All-region tryouts involve the finest students from schools in our Region. The music is announced in August and tryouts are October. Solo & ensemble competition takes place in February. Medals or ribbons will be earned based on your ratings.

  FUNDRAISING:

The WOW band will be participating in a few fund raisers this year in order to provide needed funds. The money we raise will go towards band camp scholarships, social functions, purchasing supplies for the band, clinicians, equipment, and awards. All students are expected to take part in helping to raise funds. If anyone has connections to local businesses or banks that might be interested in adopting the WHITE OAK band as a school support project, please let me know. Businesses can support our band program in many ways such as monetary contributions, equipment donations, food donations, etc.

  BAND PHILOSOPHY

The instrumental music program in our middle school is the first phase of a seven-year program of instruction. It is our hope that participation in the band program will foster better understanding and appreciation of music and help students to carry with them the knowledge, skills, and attitudes which help to make them more complete members of society.

While it is the individual student's achievement in music that is our primary goal, it is the commitment of all our band members to each other which will allow our program to attain success.
