Aikin Elementary Students Create Hearts for Haiti
Throughout the month of February, Aikin Elementary students paid 50 cents a piece to buy a "Heart for Haiti." These hearts were decorated by the students and then placed in the front of the school or in the cafeteria windows to show Aikin students' support of the country in tragedy. The idea was born after 5th grader Ivan Armendariz came to Aikin counselor Tressie Gallamore and asked what the students could do to help the victims of the January earthquake in Haiti. Proceeds from the fundraising event totaled $430 which will go to American Red Cross Haiti Relief efforts. Aikin faculty and staff are very proud of the generosity displayed by the students at Aikin Elementary.
