Bugs 101

All 5th grade science students at Bens Branch Elementary recently participated in a free and unique opportunity called Bug Scope. The students collected bugs about a month ago and then mailed them to the Bug Scope Project in Urbania, Illinois. Entomologists, or bug specialists, prepared and sent back slides of the specimens for the students to look at using their $700,000 Scanning Electron Microscope! The classrooms engaged in a live, interactive chat with the entomologists. In the picture are: Sidra Aslam, Tyler Crochet, teacher Jennifer Reyes, Riley Andrews, Michael Steichen, and Kali Simpson.

Bug Scope made a webpage for Bens Branch in which parents and the community can see all of the slides. To visit that webpage, click here, then go to View Session Transcript to see the questions students asked.
