Students Research and "Create" World Landmarks
Advanced students in Mrs. Freeman’s Social Studies class at the 6th Grade Campus were assigned to find the locations of nine different famous world landmarks as part of an enrichment project. They were to choose one of the landmarks to research further. Their discoveries were demonstrated in models, magazine ads and landmark webpages. Some of the models included an Eiffel Tower welded with spokes, a Stonehenge made from Styrofoam or wood blocks, the Colosseum made from sheetrock, the Statue of Liberty and a Sphinx from clay, the Leaning Tower of Pisa from a potato chip can, the Great Wall of China from proportionally correct pictures glued together and Chichen Itza from Legos. The biggest surprise was a huge Taj Mahal made from different types of cakes and wood. Not pictured are the picturesque magazine ads and website presentations that also showed off the students' desires to express themselves creatively.
