Ten Porter Elementary teachers were recently surprised with $100 gift cards from the Super Walmart in Porter. Their names were drawn out of a basket Friday, October 9. The cards can be used at any Walmart or Sam's Club to help buy classroom supplies.
The gift cards come in extremely handy for teachers, many of whom spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars on supplies for their classrooms. "The students, staff and parents of Porter Elementary appreciate Walmart's support!" said Principal Patricia Beathard.
The surprise giveaway was just the latest example or Walmart's generosity to Porter this year. Beathard said Walmart donated a truck-load of school supplies that didn't sell in August, and they sent a team of volunteers to read to the students. Walmart has also offered to help provide coats and shoes for students in need.
