NCISD Students Earn AP Scholar Awards

Three students at New Caney High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million high school students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

The three New Caney ISD students who qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams, with grades of 3 or higher (on a scale of 1-5) are Eric J. Bush, Micheal Prior, and Brandon W. Valdez.

Eric is a current senior at New Caney High School. He is a member of the band, National Honor Society, the UIL Academic Team, and is parliamentarian for Health Occupation Students of America. Eric has competed at regional and state level in several academic contests. Eric plans to study mathematics or pre-medicine and hopes to attend either Rice University or the University of Texas at Austin. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Bush.

Micheal is a 2009 graduate of New Caney High School and is currently attending his freshman year in college at Texas A&M University in College Station. He also works part-time at a café on campus. He is planning to major in Physics and is considering joining the university’s Society of Physics. Micheal is the son of Donald and Connie Prior.

Brandon is also a 2009 graduate of New Caney High School and is a freshman at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is majoring in Public Communications and works part-time. While in high school, Brandon played football all four years and was involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and Student Council. Aside from staying busy in high school, he worked at a mall after school and his summers as a lifeguard. Brandon is the son of John and Christy Gilbreath and Mark Valdez.
