Kenn K. Franklin Hired as Superintendent
At a special meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2009 the New Caney
Independent School District Board of Trustees hired Kenn K.
Franklin, to be the new superintendent. Afterwards, Mr. Franklin
and his family were welcomed to the community by residents,
teachers, and district administrators during a reception held in
their honor.
Mr. Franklin has served as superintendent of Marshall ISD since 2005. Prior to this position, he served as superintendent of Marfa ISD. He has a total of twenty-one years of experience in education—six years as a teacher/coach and fifteen years as an administrator—in other districts including Tyler ISD, Athens ISD, and Dallas ISD. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree, Masters of Education degree, and superintendent certification from University of Texas at Tyler.
Mr. Franklin was born and raised in Tyler, Texas. He attended
Baylor University and finished his degree at University of Texas at
Tyler. Born into a family of educators, it was no surprise when Mr.
Franklin began a career in education as a teacher and coach. It was
during those years that he finished his Masters of Education
Administration degree.
He is married to Debbie and has four children- Kerbi, who recently
graduated from Texas Tech University and is engaged to be married;
Hunter, who is a sophomore at Tyler Junior College; Kennedy, who is
a seventh-grader; and Walker, who is a third-grader in the Dual
Language/Immersion program that was established in the District by
Mr. Franklin.
Mr. Franklin is involved in many civic and church activities and serves on several boards including the Marshall Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Harrison County Historical Board and the Region VII Advisory Board. He enjoys coaching his children’s sports teams and cooking (especially barbeque).
Mr. Franklin will assume his new position on June 1, 2009.
