Parents and others are welcome to visit New Caney ISD schools. For the safety of those within the school setting, all visitors are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of courtesy and conduct. All visitors to a campus must report to the front office to sign in and receive a visitor pass to wear while on campus.
All lunch visitors must follow established check-in and check-out procedures. Due to space and safety concerns, lunch visitors are restricted to the following:
- Elementary: Lunch visitors are restricted to parents/step-parents/guardians, non-school-aged siblings and grandparents (accompanied by a parent or with written permission from a parent), and campus mentors. Visits will be limited to the lunch period. Principals may designate a guest table for lunch visitors. Only an authorized lunch visitor and the student for whom the visitor is approved may sit at the guest table.
- Secondary: Lunch visitors will be restricted to parents/guardians, grandparents (with written permission), and campus mentors (unless individuals are a part of a limited public forum). Secondary mentors may not use visitation at lunch with an assigned student mentee as an opportunity to create a limited open forum or limited public forum. A violation to this restriction may result in the mentor losing the privilege of visiting during lunch.
Parents/Guardians who wish to visit their child’s classroom must make arrangements at least one day in advance with the principal, principal’s designee, and/or the teacher. Parents/Guardians in classrooms are there as observers and should not become involved in discussions or classroom activities unless invited to do so by the teacher. If there is a need for a discussion with the teacher, a conference must be scheduled outside of instructional time.
To maintain an orderly educational environment, parents/guardians should not bring siblings or other children with them for classroom observations. Cell phones and paging devices must be turned off while in instructional settings.
Raptor Visitor Tracking System
For the safety and security of your child, New Caney ISD has implemented a visitor tracking system in all of its schools. The purpose of this system is to ensure that adult visitors on campus do not pose a threat to any students.
Upon entering you child’s campus, you will be asked to present one of the following forms of identification in order to move beyond the front desk:
- Valid Drivers License
- Valid form of identification containing a photograph issued by a federal or state governmental entity of the Unites States
- Valid Passport
- Valid Volunteer ID Badge issued by New Caney ISD
Your license or identification card will be scanned. Once cleared you will be issued a visitor’s badge, which must be worn while you are on campus. Upon your departure the visitor’s badge must be returned to the front office.
In addition to having all campus visitors scan their identification at the front desk when they visit, we are asking all parents to allow their children to walk to class in the morning on their own. For elementary students, there will be an exception during the first week of school so you can assist your child in learning their way to class.
Checking Students Out of School
New Caney ISD is committed to protecting students entrusted to its custody. Campus administrators exercise caution in releasing students during the school day. These procedures are followed at each campus when students are checked out of school:
- Definite and satisfactory identification, such as a driver’s license or picture ID, is required of any person authorized to talk with a student or to take a student from school. An authorized person is one who is a parent/step-parent/guardian, one who has written authorization from the student’s parent/guardian, or one who is authorized by a legal order to take possession of a student.
- A teacher may not allow a student to leave school without securing the permission of the principal or a designee.
- A principal or his/her designee will verify a telephone call from a person representing himself/herself as a parent. If a request for the release of a student is denied by the principal, the parent will be notified.
- When checking a student out of school, a parent or guardian must report to the attendance office or main office.
- High school students who have a car on campus must obtain an early dismissal pass to leave campus during the school day. These students must check out through the appropriate office before leaving the campus.
- Parents who request that a student be allowed to leave the campus for medical or family matters must do so, in writing or by personal contact, and get approval from the principal or designee. The principal or designee will verify the request.
Students who leave campus at any time without parental permission and administrative approval are subject to disciplinary action.
Emergency Information and Procedure
In case of emergency, illness, or accident to the student, the parent/guardian will be notified first. If the campus is unable to contact the parent/guardian, the school is authorized to call the Emergency Contacts as designated on the enrollment card by the parent/guardian. The parent/guardian is responsible for providing transportation to obtain medical treatment. If a student is transported by ambulance, the parent/guardian is responsible for the cost. In the event physicians, other persons named on this card, or parent/guardian cannot be contacted, school officials are hereby authorized to take whatever action is deemed necessary, in their judgment, for the health of the aforesaid student. Emergency contacts are only authorized access to information regarding the student and authority to transport the student in an emergency situation occurring at the school when the parent/guardian cannot be reached. At any other time, emergency contacts have no rights regarding the student and must have a written authorization from the parent/guardian for a specific date/time to pick up the student from school.
