Voters Pass $97.5 Million Bond Package (5/12/2012)
Voters residing in New Caney ISD overwhelmingly voted to approve the sale of $97.5 million in bonds to pay for the construction of new schools and facilities, renovations and upgrades to existing campuses, and land acquisition. The final vote was 910 to 461, or 66% in favor. “We are so pleased the residents educated themselves about the needs of the District and came out and voted to support the measure,” said Superintendent Kenn Franklin. “This would not have been possible without support from our Board, employees, parents and community members.” Passage of the bond does not affect the tax rate for property owners in the District.
Registration: Get Ready for Round Up! (4/5/2012)
New Caney ISD will once again hold its Pre-K/Kindergarten Round Up May 17 and 18. This is an opportunity for parents to register their little ones for the 2012-2013 school year. Immunizations will also be offered Friday only to the first 30 families.
Register Now for Summer Technology Camp (5/9/2012)
Summer technology camps give students the opportunity to participate in technology-related activities that are not available during the normal school year. Camps are available for students entering 4th through 12th grade in the 2012-2013 school year.
Early Voting Closes With More Than 950 Voting (5/4/2012)
With 217 registered voters casting their ballots Tuesday, May 8, the total of those voting early in the May 12 local elections finished at 956. New Caney ISD's $97.5 million School Bond Election is among the items residents living within the district's boundaries will find on the ballot. Look at our sample ballot before heading to the polls!
23 Porter Students Compete at State History Fair (5/9/2012)
Porter High School proudly sent 23 awesome students to Austin to participate in the Texas State History Fair May 4-5.
Eagle Golfers Qualify for Regionals (5/8/2012)
Eagle golfers, juniors Blake Williams and Caleb Jenkins, qualified for the regional golf tournament in Huntsville. Both Blake and Caleb qualified as individuals, meaning they had to finish as the top 2 qualifiers not on an advancing team. Blake Williams easily put that to rest as he placed 4th overall with a total score of 156 (79+77) - his personal best for his career. Caleb Jenkins finished as the 2nd qualifier by tallying a total score of 161 (78+83).
Keefer Crossing Reads-it-Forward (5/8/2012)
With the help of Norvia Read, mother of a Keefer Crossing Middle School student, 20 students were able to begin the Read-it-Forward program.
Porter Cosmetologist Takes 4th Place at State (5/4/2012)
Daisy Oviedo, a cosmetology student from Porter High School, placed fourth in Action Skills at the SkillsUSA State Competition in Corpus Christi. She taught the judges how to create highlights using foil with the slicing technique. Daisy placed second at the district level, which allowed her to advance to the state competition. Way to go Daisy!
Four Athletes Recognized, Golfer Awarded at Banquet (5/4/2012)
New Caney ISD had five finalists for the Mike Ogg All Montgomery County Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards Banquet Wednesday, May 2 in Conroe. One walked away a winner!
Saluting New Caney ISD's Teachers of the Year (5/3/2012)
Congratulations to the District's 16 campus Teachers of the Year! Each year Campus Teachers of the Year are invited to submit applications and be interviewed for consideration as District Teacher of the Year. Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year will be named at the May 21 Board of Trustees regular meeting.
